Luis Nuño
Born in Valencia (Spain) in 1963, he began his musical studies at the age of 7, the trumpet being his first instrument. In 1979 began studying guitar, but 3 years later left aside his musical career to move to Madrid and study Telecommunication Engineering. After finishing the career and working in a private company for some years, in 1990 he returned to Valencia and was incorporated at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where he is currently working as a Professor in the Area of Signal Theory and Communications.
In parallel to his scientific activity, he self studied harmony and composition. In 2004 he compiled his compositions for guitar, which were 12 at that moment. In 2006 an important change occurred in his musical work: his scientific and researching background, along with his interest in structuring his musical ideas, drove him to develop a diagram summarizing the consonance relationships among the musical notes, as well as showing a panoramic view of the keys, in a more complete way than the traditional cycle of fifths. After including a mechanical part he called it Harmonic Wheel. In 2008 he developed 2 more very useful instruments: IMPROCHART™ or Improvisation Chart, which gives the most suitable scales to improvise on any chord, and the Musical Abacus, which summarizes the fundamental concepts in Music Theory and Harmony.
Nowadays, he has near 50 compositions for solo guitar, some of which were composed by using the Harmonic Wheel and IMPROCHART™. In 2009 he met the guitarist Toni Cotolí, who played his works for first time in Spain and other countries. After obtaining success, in 2010 they decided to record a CD with 20 of those pieces. The CD, entitled “Puesta de Sol” (“Sunset”), includes a large variety of rhythms and styles. It is available in this Website.
